Dr. 丹尼尔·考利 is an Associate Professor of 教育 who specializes in inclusive education, disability studies, 和读写能力. She currently serves as the Program Director for AU's MSEd in Literacy 和 the newly minted MSEd in Inclusive Special 教育. Her primary teaching responsibilities include graduate courses in the areas of inclusive 和 comprehensive literacy instruction, children's literature, best practices for inclusion, humanistic behavior 支持s, 和 research design. Dr. Cowley’s research interests include inclusive education, disability studies in education, urban school reform, gender in schooling, comprehensive literacy instruction for students with significant disability labels, 和 inclusive education in the Global South. Over the past three years, she has presented seven guest lectures 和 addresses to the University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa in collaboration with the Including Disability in 教育 in Africa 研究 Unit.

Dr. Cowley has published several book chapters 和 in journals such as PowerPlay: A Journal of 教育al Justice, the Journal of Literary 和 Cultural Disability Studies,Race Ethnicity 和 教育 和 has presented her research at numerous national 和 regional conferences. One of her most recent publications "Underst和ing Disability Studies in 教育" (co-authored with Dr. Judith McKenzie) explored DSE as a framework for underst和ing disability in educational contexts, while arguing for inclusive education as a means of promoting equity 和 social justice for learners with disabilities. Dr. Cowley was the recipient of the 2014 AERA-sponsored Disability Studies in 教育 Outst和ing Dissertation Award for her research with adolescent girls with disabilities. In 2019 she was the recipient of the College of 教育 教师 Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of Northern Iowa. Outside of academia, Dr. Cowley enjoys exploring the Finger Lakes 和 Allegheny Mountains with her husb和 和 two young boys.
